The Restaurant

ABaC

The Restaurante ABaC is very much in tune with its natural surroundings. The large windows of the restaurant help to unite the interior and exterior of the restaurant, bringing nature indoors. The interior is decorated in a collection of whites and creams which produce an elegant, calm and almost serene atmosphere to the restaurant. This serene effect is further enhanced by the soft lighting and luxury, classically styled furniture. This main dining hall can hold up to 56 diners at once.

The kitchen however is a mass of black and stainless steel. Customers of the Restaurante ABaC can wander through the kitchen while the chefs are busy at work without disturbing them by following an LED lit path through the room. This allows the guests to really experience all the aspects of the food they are enjoying, including its preparation and cooking.

Aside from the main dining room is a selection of smaller private dining rooms which are available for hire. The bar too is worth visiting as the coloured lighting and the music changed depending on the mood the restaurant wants to create. Outside there is also a terrace which backs directly onto the Tamarita Gardens - the perfect spot for a bit of people watching!

The Restaurante ABaC is under the direction of the head chef, Jordi Cruz, who has helped the restaurant to change its direction. The young Spanish chef has already achieved a Michelin star at the L’Estany Clar restaurant near Cercs and Berga and when he worked at the L’Angle restaurant in Sant Fruitós del Bages, both just North of Barcelona. Jordi Cruz has also written a cook book as well as received many prizes for his culinary skills. This means that you can be assured that whatever you order from this Spanish restaurant, you can be assured that is of the highest quality and technical skill.

The restaurant has therefore been awarded two Michelin stars and as such, it means that the food is excellent but it has the prices to match. Despite this, the Restaurante ABaC is one of those places you should go for a really special occasion. For example, you could visit the restaurant for an anniversary, birthday or even a party because you passed your exams while you were studying Spanish abroad and treat your loved one to a special meal at the ABaC in Barcelona.

Jordi Cruz's cooking style has been described as evolving and constantly changing. However one thing that is constant in his food is the use of fresh, high quality products to produce the best dishes. He tends to combine the elements of tradition and creativity in order to get the best results. Although the portions of each meal are not gigantic, the chef likes to make sure that his guests are well fed and so you will be served a number of aperitifs and small dishes in between the main meals.

The meals at this Spanish restaurant are always beautifully presented in a creative fashion. For example, one of the plates you can sample in the avocado and crab meat which is served with bright green basil ice cream while other dishes are decorated with fresh flowers. The Restaurante ABaC, just like every other great Spanish restaurant in Spain, has an excellent wine collection. In their wine cellars there are around 900 references from which to choose.

The ABaC restaurant forms part of the ABaC hotel in Barcelona which allows the restaurant to offer some special packages. For example, you can purchase a weekend package that includes a welcome breakfast meal, a night's accommodation at the hotel, a meal at lunch or dinner, and access to the hotel's spa - the perfect treat for when you visit Barcelona!
